The best robot mower for large lawns in 2026 is the Segway Navimow X4: its 17” deck is the widest in its class, it climbs 84% slopes, and it covers 1 acre (X430) or 1.5 acres (X450) without a base station in most yards. For 2 acres and up, the Navimow X390 is the only mainstream wire-free mower rated for 2.5 acres. If your big yard is steep or shaded, the Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 5000 and Dreame A3 AWD Pro 5000 (both about 1.25 acres) handle trees and hills better. Whichever you pick, buy more rated area than you need. Here’s why, and how much.

Best robot mower for 1 acre

A one-acre lawn is 43,560 sq ft. With 15–20% headroom, you want a mower rated for about 1.15 to 1.2 acres, which is why the 1.25-acre flagships below fit a full acre better than a mower rated for exactly one.

Segway Navimow X430: best overall for about an acre

Why we picked it: The X4 is our best overall pick for typical US lawns from half an acre up, and the X430 is the premium-tier 1-acre version. The 17” deck is the widest in its class, so it simply covers ground faster than rivals. It adds 4WD with an 84% (40°) slope rating, Xero-Turn steering, easy auto or remote-control mapping and reliable obstacle avoidance. Navigation is network RTK plus 360° vision, designed to run without an antenna.

Skip it if: your lawn is a full acre or more. At exactly 1 acre of rated coverage, the X430 has no headroom, so step up to the X450. Also skip it for yards under heavy tree canopy, where LiDAR rivals hold position better, and note that some addresses still need the included RTK antenna. Reviewers report it occasionally misses spots that need a trim.

Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 5000: best for large, steep lawns

Why we picked it: The 5000 tier covers 1.25 acres, enough headroom for a full acre, and it’s the most capable all-rounder for difficult big yards. Tri-Fusion navigation (360° LiDAR, network RTK and dual cameras) means no base station and no dead zones under trees, and AWD with an 80% (38.7°) rating handles hills that strand two-wheel mowers. The 15.7” dual-disc deck mows quickly.

Skip it if: your acre is flat and open. The 5000 is a flagship-tier purchase, so you’re paying for terrain and canopy capability you won’t use, and the Navimow X4 mows faster for less. It’s also heavy at 41 lb, can scuff turf on tight turns, and owners report some app lag. If you’re choosing between these two, read our LUBA 3 vs Navimow X4 comparison.

Dreame A3 AWD Pro 5000: best value for an acre with trees

Why we picked it: The A3 AWD Pro 5000 covers 1.24 acres at a premium-tier sale price, well below its list price. It navigates with 360° 3D LiDAR and binocular cameras and uses no satellites, so big lots with mature trees, outbuildings or a tall house don’t break its positioning. It also climbs 80% slopes, has active suspension and a 15.8” deck, and includes 4G tracking with three years of service.

Skip it if: you want a perfect cut with no follow-up. One major review found missed patches, obstacle avoidance is good but not perfect, and you’ll still need a string trimmer for edges. Plan to fine-tune the map after the first few runs. Our Dreame A3 AWD Pro vs LUBA 3 AWD comparison breaks down the trade-offs.

Also consider for lawns a bit under an acre: the Roborock RockMow X130H (1 acre, premium tier) brings AWD and an 80% rating but needs its included RTK base station and hasn’t been independently reviewed. The Airseekers TRON PLUS (1 acre, premium tier) mulches thick grass better than anything reviewers have tried, but New Atlas found weak obstacle avoidance. Both are rated for exactly 1 acre, so treat them as fits for lawns closer to 0.85 acre.

Best robot mower for 1.5 acres

For 1.25 to 1.5 acres, you need a mower rated around 1.5 acres or more. This band has the most choice, including the Navimow X350 (1.5 acres, premium tier) and the WORX Landroid Vision Cloud 4WD (up to 1.5 acres), though its 8.7” deck is narrow for this much grass. The HOOKII Neomow X2 Pro (about 1.5 acres, premium tier) is a newer LiDAR option with an 11” deck and no antenna, but it’s 2WD with a 45% limit and still lightly reviewed.

Segway Navimow X450: best for 1.25 to 1.5 acres

Why we picked it: Same hardware as the X430, rated for 1.5 acres, and still in the premium tier. That’s the sweet spot for a 1.25-acre lawn with comfortable headroom. For flat-to-hilly lawns in this range, no other mower combines a 17” deck, an 84% slope rating and antenna-free network RTK at this price, which is why we call the X4 the best large-lawn value of 2026.

Skip it if: your lawn is right at 1.5 acres with lots of obstacles or slopes. Climbing and dodging eat runtime, so a busy 1.5-acre lot may need a 2-acre-class mower. The same canopy caveat applies as with the X430.

Sunseeker X7 Plus Gen 2: best finish on a big lawn

Why we picked it: The X7 Plus Gen 2 covers up to 1.5 acres and had the best cut quality in Reviewed’s testing, with stripes and checkerboard patterns. AWD and a 70% (35°) rating handle real slopes, the 4” max cut height suits cool-season grass, and Gen 2 needs no base station. 4G-GPS tracking is standard on the Plus. Expect a premium-tier price.

Skip it if: you care more about speed than looks. Its 14” deck is narrower than the X4’s, it’s priced high against 2026 LiDAR rivals, and the weather rating is only IPX5. Make sure you’re buying Gen 2: the original X7 sold at Costco is a 0.75-acre model that needs an RTK base station.

Lymow One Plus: best for rough, overgrown acreage

Why we picked it: Tank tracks, a 16” deck, an aluminum frame and a LiFePO4 battery make it the large-lawn pick for rural ground that’s rough, steep or rarely manicured. Lymow claims a 45° (about 100%) slope rating, which we treat as marketing, but tracks clearly go where wheels can’t. The 5A and 10A, both premium-tier, are rated 1.1 and 1.73 acres.

Skip it if: you read the rating too literally or own a suburban lawn. Lymow’s area figure is per day, and it covers about 0.57 acre per charge. It also needs an RTK base, manual mapping takes 30 to 45 minutes, it’s heavier and louder than wheeled robots, and Tom’s Guide found it left patches.

Best robot mower for 2 acres and up

Above 1.5 acres, the field narrows to two serious options, plus one niche platform. With headroom, a 2-acre lawn needs a mower rated for about 2.3 to 2.4 acres, and only one mainstream wire-free model clears that.

Segway Navimow X3 X390: best robot mower for 2+ acres

Why we picked it: The X390’s 2.5-acre rating is unmatched among mainstream wire-free mowers, and it’s the clear pick for a robot mower for 2 acres. It navigates with RTK (network or antenna) plus three wide-angle cameras and a ToF sensor, and reviewers note it’s fast, accurate and holds position under trees. It cuts up to 4” and has 4G GPS tracking with a geofence alarm. The X390 sits in the flagship tier, and the X3 line has been discounted since the X4 arrived.

Skip it if: your acreage is hilly. The X3 is 2WD with a 50% (26.6°) limit, and its 9.3” deck is narrower than the X4’s. For anything up to 1.5 acres, the newer X4 is the better buy.

Husqvarna Automower 440 iQ: best dealer-backed mower for big properties

Why we picked it: The 440 iQ is rated for 2 acres, at a flagship-tier October 2026 campaign price. You get Husqvarna’s dealer network, a 4-year warranty and a mature platform that can fall back to boundary wire in spots with poor sky view. It uses EPOS satellite RTK with a reference station, plus radar object detection.

Skip it if: your yard is irregular or sloped. Husqvarna rates the 440 iQ for 2 acres on open, systematic layouts and says irregular yards get roughly half that. Its slope limit is 45% inside the area and just 15% at the boundary, the reference station needs its own outlet, and radar avoidance trails LiDAR and vision. Our Husqvarna vs Mammotion comparison covers who should still choose it.

Also consider: Yarbo Mower Pro for 3 to 6 acres

The Yarbo Mower Pro is rated for up to 6 acres, far beyond any other consumer robot we track. It’s a tracked yard platform (70% slopes, 20” deck on the original mower module) that swaps to snow blower and other modules, and the Y40 Core plus Mower Pro bundle is a flagship-tier purchase even on sale. It needs a base station, setup takes a weekend according to reviews, and Freshly Charged found cut quality suffers in tight, cluttered areas. Buy it for open acreage and winter snow clearing, not as a better mower. Check the Yarbo Mower Pro price on Amazon

Over 2.5 acres? No mainstream wire-free robot is rated beyond the X390; the Yarbo above is the only exception we track. Split the property into two maps with two mowers, or let a robot handle the most-used acres and mow the rest occasionally. Our robot mower vs riding mower guide helps with that call.

Rated coverage vs real coverage

The area on the box is the maximum lawn a mower can maintain on the maker’s recommended schedule, usually mowing most days of the week, in good conditions. It isn’t what it cuts on one charge, and it isn’t what it’ll manage on your lot. Some makers say so openly:

Price tier vs. rated coverageEach dot is one model (largest version's area, cheapest version's price tier, from $ to $$$$). Lower and further right is better value. Models over 2.5 acres sit on the right edge.

Hover or tap a dot for details. Full numbers are in the comparison chart.

  • Husqvarna rates the 410/420/440 iQ at 0.5/1/2 acres for open, systematic layouts and says irregular yards get roughly half that. The 435 iQ AWD is rated 1.3 acres systematic and 0.9 acre irregular.
  • Lymow rates the One Plus per day (1.1 or 1.73 acres) but per charge it covers about 0.57 acre.
  • Most others publish a single “up to” figure.

Things that cut real coverage: slopes (climbing drains the battery), many obstacles and trees (more turns and avoidance maneuvers), narrow strips and many zones (more transit time between areas), thick spring growth, and wet days skipped by rain delay. A simple open rectangle gets close to the rating. A wooded, hilly, many-bed lot can get well under it.

Deck width vs mowing time

On a small lawn, deck width barely matters. On a big one, it’s the difference between a mower that keeps up in May and one that falls behind. Here’s how far each mower must drive to cut one acre once, assuming no overlap (real mowers overlap, so actual distance is higher):

Deck widthExampleDistance to cut 1 acre once
17”Navimow X4~5.8 miles
16”Lymow One Plus~6.2 miles
15.7”–15.8”LUBA 3 AWD, Dreame A3 AWD Pro~6.3 miles
14”Sunseeker X7 Gen 2~7.1 miles
11”HOOKII Neomow X2~9.0 miles
9.3”–9.4”Navimow X3, Automower iQ~10.5–10.6 miles
8.7”Landroid Vision Cloud 4WD~11.4 miles

At the same ground speed, the X4’s 17” deck covers about 83% more grass per pass than a 9.3” deck. Narrow-deck mowers make up for it by running more hours and more days, which is why their acreage ratings can still be high, but they have less slack when growth spikes or rain cancels runs. If your big lawn grows fast in spring, favor a wide deck.

Multi-zone maps and big-yard layout

Large properties rarely form one tidy rectangle. Expect a front yard, a back yard, side strips and maybe a pasture edge. Before you buy, check:

What a good robot mower map looks likeSeparate zones joined by a corridor, no-go areas drawn around obstacles, and a dock with a clear view of the sky.
House Back lawn (Zone 1) Front (Zone 2) Corridor ≥ 3 ft No-go: flower bed No-go: play set DOCK Open sky + signal Trees: LiDAR helps

Step by step: robot mower setup guide.

  • Multi-zone mapping. You’ll want separate zones with their own schedules, cutting heights and mowing directions, connected by paths (often called channels) the mower can drive between them.
  • Crossings. Driveways, paths and gravel between zones are normal for wire-free mowers, but sketch your route and make sure the crossing is smooth and the mower can reach it.
  • Signal coverage. RTK mowers can lose their fix in the shadow of a house or tree line between zones, while LiDAR mowers like the Dreame A3 AWD Pro don’t depend on satellites. Our navigation explainer covers the differences, and our complex-yard picks focus on these layouts.
  • Dock placement. On a big lot, a central dock cuts transit time. It also needs power and, for RTK models, open sky. The setup guide walks through placement.
  • Anti-theft. A mower working a far corner of a big property, out of sight, needs 4G tracking and alarms. All the picks above offer GPS or 4G tracking; see our theft protection guide.

Why you should buy 15–20% headroom

Buying a mower rated for exactly your lawn size leaves no slack for the things that always happen: a wet week, a growth spurt, a new flower bed that adds turns, or a battery that holds a bit less charge after a few seasons. A mower running at its limit falls behind, and a robot that falls behind leaves long grass that is harder for it to cut.

How big is your lawn, really?Squares drawn to scale. Most US suburban lots have ⅛–½ acre of actual grass.
Tennis court~2,800 sq ft
⅛ acre5,445 sq ft
¼ acre10,890 sq ft
½ acre21,780 sq ft
1 acre43,560 sq ft

Measure your mowable area (not the whole lot) with a free satellite tool, then add 15–20% headroom. The size matcher does the math.

Our rule: buy at least 15–20% more rated area than your mowable lawn (not your lot size), and more if the yard is hilly or irregular.

Mowable lawnBuy a mower rated for at leastPicks that fit
1 acre (43,560 sq ft)1.15–1.2 acLUBA 3 AWD 5000, A3 AWD Pro 5000, Navimow X450, Neomow X2 Pro

2 acres2.3–2.4 acNavimow X390, Yarbo Mower Pro

Measure your actual turf, not the deed. Subtract the house, driveway, beds and woods, and many “two-acre lots” turn out to have an acre of grass. Satellite map tools work well for this, and our size matcher does the headroom math for you. To check whether the spend makes sense, our cost calculator compares a robot with a lawn service or riding mower over time.

How we chose the best robot mowers for large lawns

We don’t hands-on test mowers. We compiled manufacturer US spec sheets, dated retailer and deal listings, and published reviews from outlets including Reviewed, Tom’s Guide, TechRadar, Bob Vila and How-To Geek, then scored each model on navigation, terrain, coverage and value. For this list, coverage carried the most weight: rated area by tier, any published real-world caveats (like Husqvarna’s irregular-yard figure), deck width, slope rating, and whether navigation holds up across a big, varied property. Our main picks are wire-free models rated for at least about 1.25 acres in their top tier; the 1-acre Roborock and Airseekers options and the newer HOOKII and Yarbo models are listed as alternatives because they have less independent testing. Read the full methodology on our how we research page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best robot mower for 1 acre?
For a full acre, buy a mower rated above an acre so it has headroom. The Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD 5000 (1.25 acres) and Dreame A3 AWD Pro 5000 (1.24 acres) fit well, as does the Segway Navimow X450 (1.5 acres). The Navimow X430 is rated for exactly 1 acre, so it's best for lawns closer to 0.85 acre.
Can a robot mower handle 2 acres?
Yes, but only a few wire-free models are rated that high. The Segway Navimow X390 covers 2.5 acres, and the Husqvarna Automower 440 iQ is rated for 2 acres on open, systematic layouts. The tracked Yarbo Mower Pro claims up to 6 acres, but it's a flagship-tier purchase. Husqvarna notes irregular yards get roughly half the rating, so a complex 2-acre property may need the X390 or two mowers.
How long does it take a robot mower to mow an acre?
Robot mowers don't mow an acre in one go. They cut a little at a time across the week and return to charge between runs. Deck width is the biggest factor: a 17-inch deck covers about 83% more ground per pass than a 9.3-inch deck at the same speed. Slopes, obstacles and many small zones add more time.
Should I buy one big robot mower or two smaller ones?
One mower is cheaper and simpler for a connected lawn up to its rated area with headroom. Two mowers make sense when a property is split into separate zones that are hard to link, such as a front and back yard divided by a driveway, or when the total area is above about 2 acres.
Are robot mowers worth it for large lawns?
Often, yes. The bigger the lawn, the more weekly mowing time a robot replaces, and a premium- or flagship-tier mower compares well with a riding mower plus fuel or a lawn service over several seasons. Our cost calculator compares the numbers for your yard.
