The verdict

Still the go-to for big, gentle acreage. The X390's 2.5-acre rating is unmatched among mainstream wire-free mowers. For anything up to 1.5 acres, the newer X4 is the better buy.

Segway Navimow X3 Series (X315 – X390) video review

The Segway Navimow X3 series is still the go-to wire-free mower for very large, gently sloped properties. The X390’s 2.5-acre rating is unmatched among mainstream wire-free robots, and reviewers praise its speed, navigation and app. For lawns of 1.5 acres or less, though, the newer Navimow X4 is the better buy, because it adds all-wheel drive and a much wider deck for similar money.

Who the Navimow X3 is for (and who should skip it)

The X3 makes the most sense on big, open, mostly level acreage: a rural lot, a large suburban corner property, a sprawling lawn with scattered trees. On those properties, the X390 is the only mainstream wire-free option that covers up to 2.5 acres (about 108,900 sq ft) on one machine.

Skip it if your lawn is hilly. It’s two-wheel drive with a 50% slope rating (about 27°), which is fine for rolling ground but not steep banks. Skip it if you have under half an acre, too. TechRadar’s reviewer said plainly that “there are plenty of cheaper, smaller options that will suit the job better.” And between 0.5 and 1.5 acres, compare it carefully against the X4 before buying.

Navigation combines RTK satellite positioning with three wide-angle cameras (front and both sides, about 300° of view per TechRadar), a time-of-flight sensor, and two visual positioning systems: VSLAM, which tracks landmarks, and VIO, which helps in featureless areas. The X3 can use network RTK where Segway has coverage. Otherwise you install the included RTK receiver, ideally high up with a clear view of the sky.

TechRadar’s Ruth Hamilton tested the X350 for several weeks on a lawn with unclear borders and several large trees. She stuck the RTK receiver on its lawn spike rather than mounting it high, which isn’t recommended, yet “all the test-runs were free of issues.” The mower navigated confidently under trees and respected a no-mow zone over newly seeded grass. Segway claims its updated RTK delivers 40% better signal observation in blind spots, and this review suggests it helps.

Setup involves some assembly of the dock and receiver, but the app walks you through it. Simple lawns can use AI Assist Mapping. Lawns with fuzzy borders are better mapped by driving the boundary by remote control, which TechRadar found straightforward. Our setup guide has more on receiver and dock placement.

Mowing performance, slopes and terrain

Speed is the X3’s calling card. TechRadar called it “ultra-speedy” and said it “rolls confidently along at an impressive pace compared to other bots I’ve tested.” The app offers Quiet, Standard and Efficient modes, with Efficient about 0.2 m/s faster. That’s hard to notice on a small lawn, but it adds up over two acres.

The 50% slope rating and 2WD drive are the limits. TechRadar noted it “might struggle with especially rough terrain” but is “absolutely fine” for the average yard. A traction control setting helps on muddy patches. As always, slope ratings assume dry, short grass. Check your grades with the slope checker and read our slope limits guide if you’re near the limit.

Obstacle avoidance is solid. In TechRadar’s tests it skirted a toddler’s ride-on car and a soccer ball, even when the ball was kicked into its path, but ran over a tangerine-sized ball sitting below camera height. Pick up small toys and pet waste before it runs.

Coverage, cutting and edges

At 9.3”, the X3’s deck is wider than most mid-range mowers but much narrower than the X4’s 17” deck. On a big lawn, the X3 makes up ground with speed and large batteries rather than deck width. TechRadar reported neat mowing that stayed within boundaries, took a logical route and was “never missing any spots.”

Cutting height adjusts electrically from the app. Edges are a typical robot-mower weak point. Segway sells an edge trimmer module for the X3’s Expansion Bay in some countries, but TechRadar didn’t test it, and US availability varies. Plan on a string trimmer for fence lines.

App, connectivity and anti-theft

The Navimow app is one of the best in the category. TechRadar called it “super-impressive,” with clear explanations and diagrams at each step, plus an easy scheduler, zone editing, no-go zones and an animal-friendly mode. Alexa and Google Home voice control are supported.

Anti-theft includes an out-of-bounds alarm, lift alerts and 4G GPS tracking, plus a hidden compartment for a third-party tracker. See our theft protection guide.

Ownership notes

  • Handling: it’s a big mower, and TechRadar found there’s no front grip, so you’ll drag it more than carry it.
  • Weather: IP66-rated and 60 dB, so rain and evening runs aren’t a problem. A garage roof still helps long term.
  • Pricing: The X4’s arrival pushed X3 prices well below their launch list prices, and in October 2026 the smallest model was mid-range. Prices change often.
  • Availability: TechRadar noted the X3 was mostly sold direct in the US at launch. Check retailer stock and return terms before ordering.

The Navimow X4 is the obvious alternative: wider deck, AWD and an 84% rating for similar money, but capped at 1.5 acres. The Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD adds LiDAR for tree-heavy lots up to 1.25 acres. The Husqvarna Automower 440 iQ covers 2 acres with dealer support but older navigation. Our best robot mowers for large lawns guide and LUBA 3 vs Navimow X4 comparison go deeper. Bottom line

The Navimow X3 is a fast, accurate, well-supported mower for big, gentle properties, and the X390 has no mainstream rival above 1.5 acres. Below that size, the X4 usually gives you more for the money. Buy the X3 for acreage, not hills.

Navimow X3 FAQ

Which Navimow X3 model do I need?
Match the rating to your mowable area with some margin. The X315 covers 0.4 acre (mid-range), the X330 0.75 acre and the X350 1.5 acres (both premium), and the X390 2.5 acres (flagship), based on October 2026 prices. All four share the same chassis, deck and navigation. The bigger models mainly add battery capacity.
Should I buy the Navimow X3 or the newer X4?
For lawns up to 1.5 acres, the X4 is usually the better buy. It has a wider 17-inch deck, all-wheel drive and an 84% slope rating for similar money. The X3 still makes sense in two cases: you need more than 1.5 acres, where only the X390 reaches 2.5 acres, or you find an X315 or X330 deeply discounted for a flat lawn.
Does the Navimow X3 need an RTK antenna?
Sometimes. The X3 can use network RTK where coverage exists, but it ships with an RTK receiver for yards without it. TechRadar's review unit used the receiver on its ground spike and still navigated accurately under large trees. Ideally, mount it high with a clear view of the sky.
Can the Navimow X3 handle hills?
Gentle to moderate ones. It's two-wheel drive with a 50% slope rating, about 27 degrees, and the app has a traction control mode for muddy ground. Ratings assume dry, short grass. For steeper acreage, look at an AWD mower like the Navimow X4 or Mammotion LUBA 3 AWD.
