The Roborock RockMow X1 LiDAR is an all-wheel-drive robot mower that navigates by LiDAR, with no RTK antenna, and it’s aimed at half-acre yards with trees, walls and slopes. On paper it has everything a hard yard needs: an 80% slope rating, active steering, suspension and solid anti-theft. The honest caveat is that it’s barely been reviewed, and it costs more than LiDAR rivals with similar coverage.
Who the RockMow X1 LiDAR is for (and who should skip it)
Roborock rates the X1 LiDAR (model X120H) for half an acre (2,000 m²) per day; Amazon lists it at 0.49 acre. That makes it a fit for suburban lots up to about 21,500 sq ft with mature trees, fences, garden walls or slopes, where RTK mowers lose their satellite fix. Techwalla summed up the decision neatly: whether it’s worth buying “depends almost entirely on whether your yard has a clear view of the sky.”
Skip it if your yard is open, because Roborock’s own RockMow X1 uses RTK, has the same chassis and costs less. Skip it if you have more than half an acre, since the rating is per day and there’s no bigger tier. And if you want proven, long-term reliability data before spending this much, wait a season. That data doesn’t exist yet.
Navigation and setup
Sentisphere fuses a 360° 3D LiDAR scanner with VSLAM. Roborock says it captures 200,000 points per second with a detection range of about 230 ft, and that a metal guard protects the sensor. With no satellite dependency, canopy and buildings shouldn’t matter. Our navigation explainer covers the trade-offs between LiDAR and RTK.
Setup should be simple: there’s no antenna, and Roborock says the dock can go indoors or outdoors. Read the fine print on its product page, though. As of October 2026, Roborock marks AI-powered auto mapping, its obstacle-behavior categories, custom pattern mowing and multi-zone management as features “available via an upcoming OTA update.” Expect to map manually and to get some features later through software. If any of those features matters to you, confirm it has shipped before buying.
Mowing performance, slopes and terrain
The drivetrain is the X1’s headline. All four wheels are driven, the patented active front steering is designed to turn without dragging turf, and dual-spring suspension plus a floating deck keep the blades level over bumps. Roborock rates it for 80% slopes (38.7°) and 3.1” obstacles. No outlet has published slope testing, so treat 80% as a best case for dry, short grass and check your yard with the slope checker.
Early impressions are positive. The Smart Home Hookup, which tried a pre-release unit, credited it with “independent front steering, good object avoidance, and good cut quality.” It gave the X1 LiDAR its “Best Mass Market Adoption: Mower” award and called it possibly “the most ‘one size fits all’ mower ever made.” Roborock says its vision-LiDAR fusion bypasses static obstacles, turns away from people and animals, and drives over crossable objects, though it flags parts of that behavior as coming in an update.
Coverage, cutting and edges
Coverage is the weak point. The Smart Home Hookup listed “lower than average mowing capacity” as a downside, and Roborock doesn’t publish a deck width. Its six-blade, double-layer disc cuts from 1.6” to 3.5”, which is fine for most lawns but higher at the bottom than some rivals if you like a short cut.
Edges depend on an accessory. The PreciEdge module reaches 1.2” from borders, and on open, flat boundaries Roborock says the mower rides over the edge for a flush finish. Without the module, Techwalla estimates about 4” is left uncut along walls and beds, and the Smart Home Hookup also flagged “larger edge borders.” Techwalla reports the module is sold separately in Europe, but US pricing is unconfirmed.
App, connectivity and anti-theft
Anti-theft is solid: 4G real-time tracking, a PIN lockout, a high-decibel alarm when the mower is lifted or leaves its fence, and support for third-party trackers. The Roborock app shows live progress and estimated completion, and a wildlife-friendly setting pauses mowing during set hours to protect nocturnal animals. Rain sensing sends it back to the dock, and it’s rated IPX6. See our theft protection guide for more.
Ownership notes
- 4G costs: Techwalla, citing Gizmodo, reports three years of 4G are included, with post-trial pricing undisclosed.
- Hidden costs: add the PreciEdge module and blades to the sticker price. Techwalla argues the true multi-year cost “isn’t calculable” yet.
- Weight: about 47.8 lb, heavy for a half-acre mower.
- Pricing: it launched at a discount off list and has since sold for noticeably less at Roborock US and elsewhere. Don’t pay launch pricing.
- Support track record: Roborock is a major robot-vacuum brand, but this is its first US mower generation, so mower-specific support history is thin.
How the RockMow X1 LiDAR compares
The Dreame A3 AWD is the value benchmark: LiDAR, AWD, an 80% rating and built-in EdgeMaster trimming for half an acre at a mid-range price, though its 7.9” deck is narrow. The MOVA LiDAX Ultra 2000 AWD also costs less for the same half acre and adds a 15.8” deck, 1.2” edge trimming without an add-on, and strong reviews. For small, hilly yards, the Mammotion LUBA mini 2 AWD is the proven alternative.
| RockMow X1 LiDAR | Dreame A3 AWD | MOVA LiDAX Ultra AWD | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Max area | 0.5 acre | 0.5 acre | 0.5–0.75 acre |
| Max slope | 80% (~39°) | 80% (~39°) | 80% (~39°) |
| Edge gap | 1.2” with optional module | about 1.9” (EdgeMaster) | about 1.2” (UltraTrim) |
| Price tier | $$–$$$ | $$ | $$–$$$ |

Bottom line
The RockMow X1 LiDAR has the right hardware for a shady, sloped half-acre: LiDAR with no antenna, a genuinely sophisticated AWD chassis and good anti-theft. What it lacks is evidence. Several software features are still promised updates, edge trimming costs extra, and it costs more than better-reviewed rivals. Buy it on a deep sale or if you’re committed to Roborock’s app; otherwise, wait for full reviews.
